sartre and debeauvoir are NOT relationship gurus
Did you see the style issue of the New Yorker? The book review regarding Sartre & deBeauvoir?
Unfortunately I was corrupted by The Mandarins at an early age - therefore somehow thinking that a relationship could really exist that you bond with someone on a moral and intellectual level and accept that sometimes your heart might just need a vacation...
That is not a very popular view. Especially when you're married.
So now I get to live with my parents again in the suburbs (glamour!), get told by my Nelson Algren that really, we are terrible together (romance!) and read that Simone and Jean Paul might just have been the most evil couple ever (destroy the lives of impressionable girls!). Could they be working on me from the dead?
Can I put that on my divorce papers?
I am sorry - I was corrupted by the ideas of existential philosophers...I blame literature.
OTOH - I got some for the first time in 8 months this weekend. Thank god.
